my hair is very long, like 4 inches below my mid back, and it thick, long, and slightly wavy. i love and it just wear it down all of the time to show it off. my mom said that ponytails show my face, when i pull my hair behind my ears anyway so it doesn't hide it (it never did anyway, just when i had "side" bangs which that was years ago). she says that i "hide my beautiful eyes" but i don't! ughhhhh i keep telling her that i am not a baby anymore and i should wear my hair the way I want to. it looks best when i just leave it hanging. for her birthday, i wore it in a ponytail, but in the restaurant i just couldn't hold back my tears (i am very dramatic at times..bipolar) and i just pulled the band off and said "there!" to her. how can i get her to leave me alone about this ponytail thing? i am never going to want or wear them, if she likes it or not. please give me advice to shut her up. thanks!

Why don't you find a style you both like? You say your hair is naturally wavy (so is mine and i love it =]) why don't you put it in plaits over night and let it down the next morning so it's really wavy and then pin the sides back so you leave it down at the back with your face showing at the front? Have a look on a few websites at style ideas and give it a go =] good fun when you have friends around =]

How nice it must be to have such a simple life where whether or not your hair is up or down creates a crisis worth crying over.
What the hell difference is it going to make in your life whether or not you wear your hair in a pony tail? Why is it so incredibly important?
Dont fight with your mother. IT really doesnt make a difference if your hair is up or down. If it makes her feel good to see it up, put it up before you leave the house, and put it back up before you walk through the door.
Now you're being thoughtful and loving towards your mother who has an irrational desire to see you in a pony tail, yet you're making the choice to wear your hair how you like it.
Dont be such a drama queen for God's sake.

I do not know how old you are. But this brought a smile.
How I can help from so far, I do not know. But Mothers are the same all the World over.
If you always leave hair down, it will not remain healthy. So compromise. After all it is not the end of the World.
You can wear it down when you go out on own , always. Please her by tying it up when you are with her. You will still look pretty.
If you know what all my Mom wanted me to do you will have fits. I survived. I looked pretty.
And so will you.
Wish you best.

First of all you didn't say how old you are.
If you don't live with your parents, I don't see why your mom should have any say it in. But it sounds like your a teenager, and you need to respectfully tell you mom that it's your hair, and this is the way you like to wear your hair. My daughter is 5, and she usually likes her hair down also, and my wife asks her if she wants it up, and sometimes she does, sometimes not, but she doesn't make her wear her hair up if she doesn't want to.

Your mum may like your hair in a pony tail and you like your hair down.Compromise with your mum where your hair in a pony tail while you are home or at school. When you go out wear it down. Stand in front of the mirror and practice with different styles, have a bit of fun with it. Get your mum in on the fun tell her to do a style with your hair, have a laugh with your mum. That was lovely for you to wear your hair the way your mum likes it for her birthday, you sound like a very thoughtful young lady.

It is the opposite here I would love to see my daughter out of the ponytail anyway just tell your mom that you don't like the ponytail and because your hair is so long and thick it gives you a headache to have it pulled up that way. Maybe go and buy some nice head bands to keep it pulled back away from the face but still left loose. Mothers never stop trying to give their daughters advice just figure out a compromise and stick with it.

I like buffy's myself. But really you need to listen to your mom as long as your at home. The biggest thing to hate your mama about is if and when she dies. I miss the b*tch'n.

You could politely point out that putting your hair in a ponytail is actually bad for it - that it can cause breakage and split ends. Also, having the hair pulled tightly back causes excess oil on the forehead which takes most of the strain, which causes a shiny face and breakouts. Not to mention the fact that since your hair is so long and thick, it can cause neck problems and headaches because of how the ponytail concentrates all the weight in one area.
Hope that helps....my mom used to try to make me wear ponytails all the time too, and I hated them =)

Nope; no hair style advice here. If you feel that passionately about it then try this.
Wait for a time when your NOT arguing about your hair. Maybe when she's folding laundry or something that doesn't require all her attention. And just tell her that you want to talk about how your always arguing over your hair. You mentioned that your bi-polar. That usually means that you are detail oriented. Maybe try making yourself some notes to help you remember your points. If she sees how serious you are about this she will maybe she'll reconsider and see she's giving you a hard time over nothing. Tell her how it makes you feel like your still a little kid when she makes you wear your hair like one.
Which I believe is at the heart of all of this. I'm not going to turn this into a psychology class, but this is more about her baby {you} growing up, rather than hairstyles.
P.S. My hair is very long also, and I do pull it back sometimes, especially when I'm eating somethng messy. It's been long my whole life and my mom was always after me to cut it off and wear it short like hers! To this day she doesn't understand why I wear it long and how much work it must be. At least your Mom is bugging you about something temporary like a pony-tail!
